Saahas X iTeach Schools
About the Initiative
Saahas, a dedicated non-profit organization for stray animal welfare, recently collaborated with iTeach to celebrate its 10th anniversary’s Seva Week. Over the course of a week, Saahas conducted awareness sessions and feeding drives in 9 government schools across Pune, reaching underprivileged children with a mission to foster empathy and compassion for stray animals.
The awareness sessions covered essential topics, including safe interactions with stray animals, basic first-aid techniques, understanding animal behavior, proper feeding practices, and ways to reach out to animal welfare organizations for help. The initiative also encouraged children to support local wildlife by simple actions like feeding birds, making it relatable and actionable for the young participants.
To wrap up the campaign, Saahas organized a feeding drive for stray animals where children could put their newfound knowledge into practice. This hands-on experience not only instilled a sense of responsibility but also allowed them to experience the joy of helping stray animals firsthand.
The campaign was a meaningful step toward building empathy, kindness, and accountability in young minds, showing them, how small actions can create a big impact for community animals.
Impact Created
A total of 180 children, aged 6 to 18, participated in hands-on feeding drives, allowing them to practically apply their learnings about empathy, animal care, feeding practices, and basic first aid for stray animals. Conducted across nine areas of Pune - Aundh, Yerwada, Mundhwa, Kondhwa, Ganj Peth, Hadapsar, Erandwane, PCMC, and Karve Nagar - the drives were witnessed and supported by multiple residents. These interactions provided a valuable opportunity to educate the local community about proper feeding practices and the importance of caring for stray animals, fostering greater awareness and compassion toward strays while encouraging active involvement in stray animal welfare.

Our Learnings
At the end of the session, the children received reflection sheets to document their key learnings and takeaways. Through these sheets, they shared their understanding of empathy, safe feeding practices, and the significance of caring for stray and community animals.
Many children expressed heartfelt commitments to look after the stray animals in their neighborhoods. They also promised to share their newly gained knowledge about animal welfare with friends and family, helping to spread awareness and compassion for strays within their communities.
